Extended School

St Matthias School is an ‘extended school’ which means we do more than provide your child with an education between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm. As well as providing childcare through breakfast club and after school playcentre, we hold a wide range of other activities before school, after school and during lunchtimes.

Before school activities are targeted at children who need extra help with an aspect of their learning. These are provided free of charge and children are selected according to need. For example, we run a ‘catch up’ reading class from 8:30 am for Year 1 children.

In Key Stage 1 and 2 we run a series of lunchtime clubs. These include sports clubs, design club, bookmaking club, dance club, maths club, chess club and free play club. Children sign up for a club for the week.

After school we run a series of clubs for children in Key Stage One and Two.  There is a charge for these – except for children who attend play centre who can attend after school clubs free of charge (they have already paid their play centre fee).   Some sports clubs, such as football, are run by outside coaches and cost more.  The clubs on offer vary from term to term but usually include football and art clubs among others.
